Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari would visit the city on September 14 to lay the foundation stone of three projects worth Rs 3212 crore.

These projects include a new elevated road for the city, four-laned Ladhowal bypass and four-laning of Ludhiana-Kharar road.

Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat on Monday said all three projects would provide a "new direction to the ongoing development of the district".

For the permanent solution of the increasing traffic congestion in the city, an elevated road is being constructed. It would be 13 km in length starting from Samrala Chowk to MC Limits. An amount of Rs 852.67 crore would be spent on this project, he said.

The foundation stone of new four-laned Ladhowal bypass, which would connect National Highway-95 with National Highway-1, would also be laid. This project would start from near Ladhowal Seed Farm and would be a 17 km stretch. It would cost Rs 392 crore, Bhagat said.

He said besides these two projects, the Union Minister would also lay the foundation stone of four-laning of Chandigarh Road- starting from Ludhiana (Samrala Chowk) to Kharar.

This project would not only be beneficial for Ludhiana, but also to the entire state, Bhagat said.

The deputy commissioner said this 76 km-long road would be constructed at a cost of around Rs 1967.32 crore.

Bhagat said the National Highways Authority of India would carry out the work on all three projects.

It is expected they would be ready in next two-and-half-years time, he added.
