Police recovered 25 gold chains and other jewellery items worth around Rs 15 lakh from them.
"On a tip off, we busted the gang and recovered 25 gold chains ('mangalsutras') along with some jewellery items, collectively worth around Rs 15 lakh, and a car," Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police HC Mishra said.
The accused are identified as Rukmani Shakte (25), Sonam Shakte (19), Sarita Hatawale (36), and Subhash Pal (36).
Explaining the modus operandi, the officer said the members of the gang used to target women at crowded places like fairs, markets, and near places of worship. "After committing the crime, they will get mingled with crowd. They used special tools to cut necklaces," he added.
He said further investigation is on in the case.
