General Motors recalls 1.55 lakh vehicles in India

In the biggest recall of vehicles in India, General Motors is recalling 1.55 lakh vehicles made between 2007 and 2014, including Chevrolet Spark, Beat and Enjoy models, to rectify faulty remote keyless entry accessory.
US company's arm, General Motors India said it has been made aware of some isolated cases where certain Chevrolet Spark, Beat and Enjoy vehicles were fitted with a faulty remote keyless entry accessory.
"As a result, the impacted Chevrolet Spark, Beat and Enjoy vehicles could experience damage to the vehicle due to inappropriate routing. The recall affects approximately 155,000 vehicles in India manufactured between 2007 and 2014," the company said in a statement.

It insisted however that the remote keyless entry accessory meets all the relevant regulatory standards.
GM India will contact all affected customers to correct the fitting of the remote keyless entry accessory free of charge, it said.
If a customer has any concerns regarding the performance of their remote keyless entry accessory, we ask them to visit their nearest Chevrolet dealer for a free inspection, the company said.

The previous biggest recall in the country was by Ford for 1.32 lakh units of Fiesta and Figo in 2013.
In the same year, GM India had also announced recall of 1.14 lakh units of its multi-purpose vehicle Chevrolet Tavera, manufactured between 2005 and 2013, to address emissions and specification issues.

Since automobile industry body SIAM introduced voluntary recall of vehicles over safety issues in July 2012, over 9 lakh vehicles have been recalled in India.
Last week, Japanese car giant Toyota said it was recalling 7,129 units of its executive sedan Corolla in India to fix faulty passenger side airbags as part of a global exercise.
Nissan had also announced a recall of around 12,000 units of various models, including mid-sized sedan Sunny and small car Micra, manufactured between June 2013 and March 2015 in India as part of its global campaign to rectify engine switches and airbags.
Last month, Honda Cars India recalled a total of 11,381 units of Accord, CR-V and Civic, manufactured between 2003 and 2007, to replace a faulty part in the passenger and driver side airbags, as part of its global campaign of fixing potential defects related to airbags.
