'Gilligan's Island' actor Russell Johnson dies

TV actor Russell Johnson, best known for his role as a professor in American sitcom 'Gilligan's Island', has died at the age of 89.
According to the actor's longtime agent Michael Eisenstadt, Johnson died of kidney failure on January 16, reported Variety online.
From the 1950s through the 1980s, Johnson guest-starred on many TV shows like 'Twilight Zone', 'Lassie', 'Lou Grant', 'Dynasty' and 'Alf'.
The late actor's role as Professor Roy Hinkley on 'Gilligan's Island' became his most memorable performance.
Throughout the 1950s, Johnson also appeared on big screen in sci-fi films including 'This Island Earth' and 'It Came from Outer Space'.

Johnson is survived by his wife and a daughter.
