A nine-year-old girl of a local girls school today received severe burn injury as her saree caught fire from a candle light while she was performing a dance at the Mahishadal Book Fair in East Midnapore district.
"The girl was wearing synthetic saree, which helped fire to spread in a moment. She received severe burn injuries before the organisers and her school teachers could control the situation," Superintendent of Police, East Midnapore District, Amit Kumar Rathor told PTI.
Rathor said that the girl was immediately taken to a local hospital with 60 per cent burn injury.
With the seriousness of her condition, the local hospital, however, referred her to the state-run SSKM Hospital in Kolkata, Rathor said.
