Rawat was interacting with 2,500 school children through video-conferencing to mark the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement.
Noting that only first class teachers are appointed in government schools, he said, "If good teachers do their job well, they don't let students feel the absence or lack of educational infrastructure in schools."
The chief minister said this in a reply to a question about steps being taken by the state government to improve the condition of schools in the state.
On whether he regretted not being able to give enough time to his family because of his busy schedule, Rawat said small sacrifices have to be made when one is out to achieve big goals in life.
"However, I look upon each home as my own home and working for the people of the state to me is like working for my own family," he said.
Appealing to students to make their own contribution to nation building, Rawat asked them to take a vow to maintain cleanliness, conserve water, plant trees and help build a drug and corruption free society.
