Govt merges DSP cadre of Chandigarh with Delhi Police, other UTs

The Home Ministry has decided to merge the DSP cadre of the Chandigarh Police with the police forces of all Union Territories, including the Delhi Police, officials said.

With this, all sanctioned posts of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the UT of Chandigarh will be merged with the entry grade of the combined cadre of the Delhi and other UTs and they can be transferred and posted in any Union Territory (UT).

"The competent authority in the MHA has approved the proposal of merger of the DSP cadre of the Chandigarh Police with the NCT of Delhi, Anadaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli Police Service," a ministry official said today.

Under the existing system, the officers in the feeder grades, in all segments of AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre, having legitimate claim and also expectations, for promotional avenues, against duty posts in various grades of civil and police services, as per the extant statutory rules and also the resultant vacancies against induction of officers into IAS and IPS.

However, the anomalous structure in the UT of Chandigarh is depriving the feeder grades from their legitimate claim on such promotional avenues, the official said.

In order to have uniformity in the composition of the feeder grade for induction into the IAS and IPS from various segments of the AGMUT cadre, it is a practical necessary that posts in Chandigarh must be manned by the officers of entry grade of the combine grade of the UTs and accordingly the decision has been taken, another official said.

The MHA is also seeking suggestions and comments from stakeholders in this effect by May 19, the official said.
