The Narendra Modi-led NDA government is taking all possible steps to prevent terrorism from raising its head in the country, Minister of State for Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan said today.
Addressing workers of party and various other Hindu outfits, who had assembled to pay homage to the victims of the 1998 serial blasts here, Radhakrishnan said the US succeeded in preventing terror acts, after September 11, 2001.
Similarly, the Modi government was also taking various steps to prevent possible terror attacks in the country, he said, adding that the world should stand united to fight terror activities.
"If we allow terrorism to raise its head, that will be the end of democracy," he said.
Stating that the homage was being paid not only to those who died in the blast in the city, but to all those victims across the world, Radhakrishnan said such incidents should not recur in any part of the world.
Referring to the attack on a mosque in Pakistan yesterday, he said there was no religion for terrorists.
He also said the Centre was passing intelligence information to states to take steps to prevent terror activities.
Later, police took into custody workers, belonging to BJP, Bharat Sena, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena and other Hindu outfits who had gathered there as no permission was granted to conduct the event, police said.
The February 14, 1998 serial bomb blasts ahead of BJP leader L K Advani's campaign meeting had killed 58 persons and left over 200 injured.
