After lending his weight to tuberculosis awareness commercials, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has offered to support the government's campaign on various health issues, including Hepatitis B.
Bachchan accompanied by his wife Jaya Bachchan today met Health Minister J P Nadda at his residence today and expressed his keen interest in helping the Ministry create awareness on health issues.
"Met Shri @SrBachchan and Ms Jaya Bachchan today at my residence in Delhi. Happy to inform that Shri @SrBachchan showed a keen interest in helping to create awareness on health issues," Nadda tweeted.
He said he was "deeply" impressed by the humility and social committment of the senior Bachchan and thanked him for offering his support to the Ministry for spreading awareness on Hepatitis B and TB.
"I thank Shri @SrBachchan for offering his support to Health Ministry for creating awareness on health issues especially HepatitisB and TB," Nadda said on micro-blogging website Twitter.
According to reports, Health Ministry is in the process of finalising talks with the actor for making him the brand ambassador for generating awareness about Hepatitis B, a major health problem faced by India.
Before going to meet Nadda, the senior Bachchan tweeted,"T 1825 - The start of another mission - the awareness for Hepatitis B .. Meeting authorities to take this forward - like Polio & TB !!".
Sources in the Ministry said this was a "courtesy" meeting, and there were talks on different health issues as well.
However, nothing was finalised during the meeting, the source said.
Health Ministry has already launched a major nationwide campaign "TB Harega, Desh Jeetega" featuring Bachchan.
The actor, who was unable to attend the launch event earlier had sent a special message reaffirming his support to the campaign against a disease he himself had battled in 2000.
In 2005, Bachchan was made UNICEF goodwill ambassador for Polio Eradication Campaign in India.
