GTU launches centre to fight cybercrime

With an aim to curb rising menace of cybercrimes, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) here has launched e-Raksha Research Centre that will encourage research and enhance capability to provide solution for issues related to cyber security
"GTU has launched e-Raksha Research Centre where various activities from research on latest techniques of cybercrime to capacity building of the faculties, students and government officers will be undertaken," a statement from GTU said here yesterday.
The centre will also support 'Make in India' concept by manufacturing routers, switches, firewalls, UTMs (Unified Threat Management) and other network appliances, it said.
GTU is collaborating with Cyber Peace Foundation (CPF) with the goal of establishing a peaceful and harmonious cyber space through research in this area, it said.
The research centre will train students in areas of cyber security and enhance their capability to provide solution for issues related with cyber security, it added.
It will also support the government in protecting critical infrastructure and mission critical services, it said adding, the centre will research on malwares such as 'botnet' and will be setting up malware analysis test bed.
Former Chhattisgarh Governor Shekhar Dutt and CEO of 'Cyber Suraksha Kawach' programme of the state government, Inspector General of Police, Gujarat, Sanjay Shrivastava, IG and Director of Police Radio Training School (PRTS), Varoon Kapoor, Additional Director General of Jharkhand Police S N Pradha and GTU vice-chancellor Akshai Aggarwal were present at the launch.
