Acting on a tip-off that four persons from Surat were carrying demonetised currency notes and were going towards Dahod in a SUV, Devgarh Baria police intercepted them near the village and recovered the money.
Of the seized notes, 13,833 are of Rs 500 denomination, while 1,434 are of Rs 1,000 denomination, said Devgarh Baria police sub inspector Bariva Rabari.
"We had received information that four persons from Surat were carrying demonetised currency towards Dahod. Upon searching their vehicle, we found a bag full of notes. We detained four persons in this connection under relevant sections of Cr PC," he said.
"We are yet to ascertain the motive. Officials of the Enforcement Directorate have been informed and further investigation is on," he said.
