Gujarat CM inaugurates Kutch canal network

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel today toured the Patan district in north Gujarat where she would be celebrating the Independence Day.
Continuing the tradition set by her predecessor Narendra Modi, Patel has decided to hold the official Independence Day celebrations in the border district of Patan this year.
She inaugurated Kutch canal of Narmada at Zazam village in Santalpur tehsil. The Chief Minister urged the people to utilise the water with restraint and planning, an official release said.
On this occasion, the CM said that of the total 357.185 km Narmada canal network for Kutch region, work of 82 km is complete. Another 144-km of canal would be added by December 2014.
Later, Patel addressed a gathering of youth at Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University in Patan, where she gave away awards of Rs 45 lakh to 14 local sportsmen who have won medals in state-level games.
She also announced commencement of four new courses at the university and inaugurated its newly-built administrative building.
She then attended a gathering of women in Patan where she asked the women to take up the mission of getting toilets built in their villages with the help of government. The CM also stressed the need to eradicate malnourishment among children.
She also visited Sami village to inaugurate a secondary school and a model school complex. She attended a ground breaking ceremony of upcoming Sami-Shankheshwar group water supply scheme.
