Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta today accused the AAP government of "criminal negligence" of Delhi Fire Services and staged a walkout over the issue during the ongoing budget session of the House.
The Fire Services is hit by "lack" of adequate personnel and equipment, Gupta said while raising the issue in the Assembly and pointing to recent deaths of two firemen in an incident in Vikaspuri in West Delhi.
"The real condolence of the deaths of the firemen Hari Om and Hari Singh Meena who died in fire at Vikaspuri, will be if the government fills up the vacant posts and procures equipment to strengthen the Fire Services," Gupta said.
The number of personnel and equipment with Delhi Fire Services has not been increased despite expansion of the city.
The situation is the same as it was three decades ago, he claimed.
"AAP government has not paid any attention towards this during its two years in power," he said.
He alleged that Delhi Fire Services was facing an "unprecedented shortage" of even basic tools and equipment like hoes, rubber gloves, fire fighting suits, helmets and other things.
He staged a walkout after his submission before the House was not responded by the government.
