Gurdaspur attack: Punjab roadways bus driver to be honored

The driver of Punjab Roadways bus, which was targeted by the terrorists in a pre-dawn attack in Dinanagar town in this district, showed tremendous presence of mind and helped save lives.
Nanak Chand remained calm and composed as the terrorists armed with sophisticated weapons fired at the moving vehicle.
The driver did not panic and drove away the heavy vehicle to the civil hospital as few passengers had sustained bullet injuries. He later rang up the police to inform about the incident.
There were nearly 65 passengers in the bus, the driver later told reporters.
He said that he did what he could do best under the given circumstances.
Recalling he incident, Chand said, "A man wearing Army uniform and had his face covered with a cloth tried to stop the vehicle. The person seemed suspicious to me. Soon, he opened fire at the bus".
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, who is on an official visit to Poland, in a statement issued at Chandigarh said that the bus driver will be honored for saving the lives of passengers from the terror attack.
In a major terror attack, three fidayeen, believed to have come from Pakistan, today attacked passengers in a moving bus and stormed a police station, killing seven persons, including an SP, while all the terrorists were gunned down after a day-long operation.
