Guv appeals people to help security forces maintain peace

Amidst crackdown on suspected terrorists activities across the country, Goa Governor Mridula Sinha today appealed to the people of the state to remain alert and help security forces avert any untoward incident.
"As far as terrorist activities are concerned, the security agencies are alert and countering any possible act by anti-social elements or extremists. I also appeal the citizen of the state to be alert and help the agencies to foil any attempt to commit crime or untoward events," the Governor said in her address after hoisting the Tricolour on the 67th Republic Day function at Campal Parade ground here.
Sinha praised the Defence forces and security agencies for their work to maintain peace in the country.
"Defence forces and security agencies have done commendable role in maintaining peace and tranquillity in the country. The courage displayed by them while discharging their duty is worth appreciating. Whenever there is any natural disaster, our forces are the first one to respond and rescue people in distress. They are protectors of our freedom," she said.
The Governor also called on the Police department and said, "Police have to play a major role insocio-economic development of the state which is possible only when we wipe out the trust deficit in our forces."
Expressing concern over rising health problems in the country, Sinha said health of citizens is a major concern today and that nutrition, clean water and education is the key to achieve the goal of good health for all.
"While we have managed to treat and prevent several diseases with timely intervention, the new kinds of ailment are surfacing. Poverty, malnutrition and unhygienic conditions are the prime reasons for the diseases to spread."
"We can prevent several diseases by providing nutritious food, clean water and education to the masses," she said.
Sinha said the country not just need educated citizens but also future leaders to lead the nation.
She also expressed concern over rising atrocities against women and children in the country.
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and other colleagues in the cabinet, members of legislative assembly and others were also present at the function.
