A hardcore NDFB (Songbijit) militant allegedly involved in the December 23 carnage in Assam was apprehended from Jaldarpara National Park forest in West Bengal, a defence spokesman said here today.
The militant, Roshish Basumatary alias Jama, is a 35th batch Myanmar trained cadre of NDFB(S) who took part in the massacre of Adivasis at Bharatpur in Kokrajhar district that claimed over 90 lives, the spokesman said.
He was apprehended in a joint operation by Army, NIA, Assam and West Bengal Police from his hideout inside Jaldarpara National Park from Alipurdwar district.
Basumatary said during interrogation about the low morale of NDFB(S) cadres due to sustained operations by the security forces and their desire to lay down arms, the spokesman said.
The arrest is likely to provide major inputs on NDFB(S) senior and junior level cadres, he said.
