Haryana buffalo deaths caused by 'Gal-Ghotu'

The buffalo deaths in a Haryana village last month were caused by 'Heamorrhagic Septicaemia' -- commonly known as 'Gal-Ghotu', officials said.
"The 20 buffaloes died because of Gal-Ghotu-- Heamorrhagic Septicaemia," Deputy Director of the Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying department, R M Mor said here today.
The cause of death was established in a report submitted by scientists from Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (LUVAS), he said.
Heamorrhagic Septicaemia commonly known as Gal-Ghotu is an acute infectious disease of cattle, sheep and other animals. This disease is characterised by high fever and its onset is sudden during the rainy season.

As many as 20 buffaloes had died last month in Nidana village of Jind district in Haryana.
The state government had then sent a team of scientists to Jind to identify the "mysterious" disease because of which the buffaloes died, and suggest control measures.
"Now the situation is under control," an official said.
