Haryana farmer commits suicide over meagre compensation

A 48-year-old farmer, upset over a meagre compensation for crop-loss, allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance here at Amravati village, police said today.
He took his life yesterday in his crop fields, they said.
The deceased has been identified as Subhash. His crops sown over 9 acres of land were damaged due to incessant rain and hailstorm. He was upset over the scant compensation of Rs 7,000 given to him for crop-loss by Haryana government, his family members said in a police report.
Already under stress due to crop loss, the farmer was upset over the paltry compensation given to him. He unable to his pay his debts with that amount, police said.
He was later taken to a nearby private hospital in Pillukhera by where he was declared brought dead, they added.
