During a voluntary vacation sitting, Justice Suresh Kumar of the Madurai Bench allowed the plea of petitioner N Chitra and rejected the contention of the Teachers Recruitment Board that she had not appeared for language papers in BA Tamil.
The petitioner submitted that she joined Bsc at a private college in Sivakasi and cleared the first year, including language Part I and II papers Tamil and English.
She directly appeared for major papers and passed them. Later, she got a B.Ed degree also and cleared Teacher Eligibility Test.
But the Teacher's Recruitment Board said she was not eligible to be appointed as teacher as she didn't clear the language papers in BA Tamil.
TRB did not consider the university's explanation that the method of joining a course in the second year directly was still in force.
