The Madras High Court today directed to implead IAS officer Uma Shankar on a petition seeking to file a case against him for making religious discourses and interviews hurting the sentiments of a particular religion promoting disharmony among people.
Admitting a petition filed by P Madhusuthana Perumal, President of Hindu Desiya Congress, Justice N Kirubakaran ordered to implead the IAS officer and issue notice to officials including Sub Inspector and Inspector of Police of Rajakkamangalam police station.
Perumal submitted that the IAS official had in an interview to a Tamil Magazine in 2013 made some comments hurting the sentiments of Hindus.
Perumal said he had lodged a police complaint against the IAS officer on July 15, 2013. However, since no action was taken on the complaint, he had moved the the court, which directed the police to file a case if a cognizable offence was made out.
But the Police did not take any action.
The IAS officer again participated in a prayer meeting of a particular religion and made some remarks against Hindus.
There was also a conflict between Hindus and Christians when some posters were pasted against the official in Paraseri in this district.
The official had misused his official position as per All India Service rules. So far no action had been taken against him, Perumal contended. He also sought to take action against the Chief Reporter of the Tamil magazine for carrying the interview.
The petitioner submitted that he had also given a complaint to the Chief Secretary regarding the violations of service rules against an official. But no action was initiated.
