HC directs UP govt to compensate 2 Noida farmers

The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to provide compensation to two Noida farmers, whose land was acquired for construction of a dam about three decades ago.
Justice Devendra Pratap Singh, in his May 13 order, said that payment must be made to all the applicants failing to which the Chief Secretary of the state will have to appear before the court in person, along with other respondents, by the next date of hearing on July 9.
The order was passed on a contempt petition of Banshi and another who had moved the court alleging non-compliance of a judgement dated December 3, 2010.

In the 2010 verdict, it was directed that the petitioners' representation for payment of solatium and interest as per provisions of the Land Acquisition Act be decided "preferably within a period of two months".
The petitioners' land had been acquired in 1982-83 for the construction of the Hindon Jamuna Dwaba Bandh and they were awaiting compensation even after 30 years.
