Justice D Hariparanthaman directed the Chennai Corporation to regularise the services of 'vettiyans', treating them as Burial Ground Assistants, and to pay all arrears within eight weeks.
The order was passed two days ago on petitions filed by T.M. Anandan and eight others.
The Judge said the nine workers should be regularised as per the G.O. Passed in 2008 which paved the way for similarly placed persons in other zones of Chennai Corporation.
According to the petitioners, Thiruvottiyur was Zone I of the Chennai Corporation. In respect of other zones, orders had already been issued for regularisation of services of 'vettiyans'.
