Advocate General A.L. Somayaji today informed the Madras High Court that details on placement of Justice R.Reghupathy Commission of Inquiry report on the building collapse at suburban Moulivakkam before the Assembly, would be furnished within a couple of days.
The First Bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T.S.Sivagnanam, had earlier warned the goverment that the probe into the building collapse would be handed over to CBI, if it further delayed placing of the one-man commission's report before the assembly.
When the matter came up today an affidavit was filed by the Secretary to Government Public and Rehabilitation Department stating that post submission of the report by Justice R. Regupathy (Retd), the Tamil Nadu Assembly was convened only for a short duration of five days-March 25, 27, 30, 31 and April 1, 2015,-- only for a limited purpose of presenting the budget.
He further submitted that he received instructions that the report would be placed in the current session.
The First Bench then called upon the Advocate General to inform the court about the period of placing the report before the Assembly to which AG submitted that he will inform the court about it within a couple of days.
The bench then posted the matter to July 23.
On June 30, the court had questioned the state government as to why the one-man commission's report on the building collapse had not yet been tabled in the assembly.
Sixty-one persons lost their lives after the 11-storeyed building collapsed on June 28 last year. The state government had set up an inquiry commission to probe the circumstances leading to the collapse.
DMK leader M K Stalin and social activist 'Traffic' Ramaswamy moved the court seeking CBI inquiry on the incident.
