Justice C.T. Selvam of the Madurai Bench, allowing the petition filed by one of the accused, quashed the First Information Report (FIR),registered by police at Nachiyarkoil in Thanjavur district not only with respect to the petitioner but all the accused in the case.
Police had booked the case in 2010 under IPC Sections 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapons), 294b (uttering obscene words), 324 (causing hurt voluntarily with dangerous weapons) and 363 (punishment for kidnapping).
The action of the students was "not befitting the student community." But it should be seen as one arising out of the indiscretion of the youth, the judge said.
Now all of them were beyond college-going age "and are to step into their various walks of life," the judge said, quashing the FIR.
