The Bombay High Court today extended till December 23 its order restraining the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Gas from implementing its circular which curtails the natural gas quota for Maharashtra.
On December 5, the division bench of Justices V M Kanade and M S Sonak had directed the ministry not to implement the November 14 circular till today, and sought reply to a petition filed by Mumbai Rickshawmens Union against.
The petition challenges the circular which revises the gas quotas of states.
The ministry today filed its affidavit. The court posted the matter till Monday for further hearing, and said until then the ministry would not put the new quota in force.
According to the petition, reduction in supply will lead to rise in the prices of cooking gas and the CNG used as fuel in auto-rickshaws and taxis.
