HC seeks city govt, DJB replies on water for Budh Vihar-II

The Delhi High Court today sought a response from DJB on whether the water treatment plant (WTP) at Haiderpur here can provide water to the underground reservoir which caters to Budh Vihar Phase-II near Rohini.
A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Siddharth Mridul asked the lawyer for Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to take instructions on the issue and inform the court on the next date of hearing, December 5.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by a society on behalf of residents of Budh Vihar Phase-II who have claimed the state government has "miserably failed to provide potable drinking water to residents of as many as 11 colonies in the area".

Sarthak Prayas Welfare Society, in its plea filed through advocate Avadh Kaushik, has contended that the rest of Rohini is supplied water from Avantika undeground reservoir while they have to depend on water tankers.
It has also contended that the underground reservoir at Sector 23, Rohini, constructed for catering to Budh Vihar Phase-II, is not providing them water and DJB is saying that the area will get water only when Haryana supplies raw water.
DJB claimed before the court that the Sector 23 underground reservoir, having a capacity of seven million gallons per day (MGD), has not been fully commissioned as it was not getting adequate water from the Haiderpur WTP.

The court, however, refused to accept the argument saying that the WTP at Haiderpur as well as Wazirabad are getting "topped-up" by water from Haryana as per the Supreme Court order.

The court said there is "apathy" on the part of DJB officials and that they "appear completely disinterested" in doing their duty.
It also said it appears DJB wants water tankers to do business.
It also said "do whatever but you (DJB) have to give them water."
Thereafter, the counsel for DJB said he will take instructions on whether water can be provided to the reservoir in Sector 23 of Rohini from the WTP at Haiderpur.
