The Madurai Bench of the Madras High today stayed the arrest of former Tiruchirappalli Corporation Deputy Mayor Mariam Ashik Meera against whom a case had been registered for allegedly cheating a woman by promising to marry her.
Justice K.Kalyanaraman issued the stay order, admitting an anticipatory bail petition filed by Meera.
He resigned as Deputy Mayor on June 16.
The Judge suggested the former Deputy Mayor and the woman Durgeswari meet at the conciliatory centre and resolve their problem.
