A district official said the headmaster Srikant Choudhury was suspended in the wake of road blockade along Basukinath-Bhagalpur route by students of Upgraded Middle School, Bogli along with their parents and villagers for over five hours yesterday.
The squatters demanded immediate action against the headmaster, further alleging he used to come to school in an inebriated state.
Choudhury was alleged to have ordered students to fetch cigarette and liquor from the nearby village and even consume in front of the students in the school, District Superintendent of Education, Dumka, Masudi Tudu said.
The students and villagers agreed to withdraw the blockade only when Tudu along with police force reached the spot and ordered issuing suspension of the Headmaster with immediate affect.
Police initially detained the Headmaster but let him off soon following his suspension, he added.
