Heavy rainfall from March 14 to 16 had been predicted and 70 mm rainfall was recorded here till late last night, said Anirudh Dubey, Weather Scientist, Chandrashekhar Azad University.
The rainfall caused massive damage to crops of wheat, peas, pigeon peas and lentils, and mango cultivation is also likely to affected adversly due to strong winds with rain and hailstorm, Dubey added.
Following the heavy rains last night, a number of areas in the city were waterlogged which caused great inconvenience to the people. Electricity supply to more than a dozen areas was also disrupted, including Fazalganj, Chamanganj, Shastrinagar, Bekanganj, P road, Bhannanpurwa.
Heavy rains also caused hoardings to collapse here.
ADM city Avinash Singh said teams have been sent to assess the damages caused in the rural areas of Kanpur.
According to Dubey, there is a possibility of rainfall today as well.
