It was a nostalgic homecoming for Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh, MP Meenakshi Lekhi and others, with their almamater Hindu college felicitating them for achieving prominent positions in their work spheres.
Singh, who passed out from Hindu College in 1977 said, "The memories of college days are still afresh and I still feel the thrill that I used to feel before exam days when in college."
Calling politics an exam, Singh said, "I hope my government is able to pass with an A class report card. This is the first time I have seen people voting for hope. I hope we are able to deliver and live up to their expectations by end of five years."
"Unfortunately, in my work sphere we do not find good Samaritans. People join politics either for their own good or for public.
"Those who do it for their own good have led to a feeling of despondency and hopelessness in the country. I hope I am able to prove myself as a good Samaritan," he added.
Meenakshi Lekhi, a 1987 batch pass out from Hindu college said she used to feel more privileged then she feels today as a Member of Parliament.
"That Lekhi was far more privileged than MP Meenakshi Lekhi because all I had to worry about was whether the canteen was serving 'pumpkin sauce' and not 'tomato ketchup'," she said sharing a lighter moment.
The Old Students Association of Hindu College yesterday felicitated Rao Inderjit singh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Commissioner of Central Information Commission Yashovardhan Azad and Solicitor General of India Ranjit Kumar.
Recalling the jokes shared during his college days, Azad said," When someone used to score good in exams, we used to say 'kahan se cheat kiya', when someone got a prize in debate, we used to say 'kahan se lift kiya', when someone used to wear a new blazer, we used to say 'kisse manga'.
"We still share these jokes among each other but the fun isn't the same. The college which started from a small building in Kinari bazaar has moved to where it stands today and same is the story of its alumnus," he added.
