In a veiled attack on Congress, Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today alleged that the family which ruled the country for years exhorted the historians to hide facts about the sacrifices made by great patriots as well as about the mysterious deaths of national leaders.
"The family that ruled India for a long time, exhorted the historians to suppress the sacrifices of great patriots and also the facts about the mysterious deaths of national leaders," the Minister of Urban Development said.
"Patriots like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and many others have not been given proper place in the history. The facts about the mysterious deaths of Subhash Chandra Bose, Dr Shyamprasad Mukherjee, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya were also suppressed," he alleged.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the bhoomi pujan for the construction of Dr Shyamprasad Mukherjee Institute for Social Studies near Penumaka village.
"Some historians, who were influenced with socialism, communism and other western ideologies also failed to reveal the facts of the history," the BJP leader added.
The minister said there was a need to inculcate the spirit of nationalism and patriotism in the youth. "Social injustice, casteism and discrimination against women should be eradicated," he said.
The government is keen to eradicate inequality from the society through implementation of various schemes like Jan Dhan Yojana, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, he said.
