A history sheeter allegedly involved in the attack on a policeman here was killed in a police 'encounter,' here today, a senior official said.
The man, identified as Anandan, was killed when police opened fire after after he attacked a Sub Inspector, City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan told PTI.
The incident occurred in Madhya Kailash area at Adyar, he added.
The deceased man was wanted in connection with the attack on a constable yesterday.
Today, when a special team went to nab him based on information, he attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, another senior official said.
Subsequently, police opened fire after issuing warnings, he added.
Anandan was taken to a government hospital where he was declared brought dead, the official said.
The sub-inspector had suffered a cut injury in his hand and was undergoing treatment, he added.
