In a press release, TEA President A Sakthivel said he was happy for inclusion of Tirupur, which was requested by the association to both central and state government's continuously.
He also thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha for recommending Tirupur under smart city programme.
Under the programme, Tirupur will get Rs 500 crore in five years and in addition, Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 400 crore for 12 municipal corporation, including Tirupur under the programme, he said.
The measure would be helpful for infrastructure development and implementation of IT for better facility, he said.
