It was a sultry day in the national capital today as the maximum temperature soared above the 40 degree Celsius mark in some parts even as the Met office predicted rains towards night or tomorrow early morning.
Safdarjung observatory, the reading of which is considered the official figure for the city, recorded a maximum temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average while the minimum temperature was pegged at 29.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, said a MeT department official.
The Palam observatory registered a maximum temperature at 41.5 degrees.
None of the weather stations have recorded any rainfall.
The humidity level oscillated between 74 and 48 per cent.
The weatherman forecast overcast conditions along with the possibility of light rain for tomorrow.
"The skies will be generally cloudy. Light rain or drizzle is likely to occur in some areas.
"The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 36 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively," the official said.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature was 37.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius.
