Vice chancellor Sushanta Dattagupta is learnt to have discussed the matter with officials of the Ministry during the vice chancellors conference at Rashtrapati Bhawan that concluded yesterday and offered a solution to end the stalemate in the campus.
The Ministry has asked him to work on it which could possibly include increasing the number of seats to accomodate affected students should the quota system be withdrawn, officials said.
"The university enjoys a unique character and hence the VC has been asked to ensure it is not diluted," officials said.
On the other hand, in a notification issued yesterday, the varsity decided that the prevailing system of admission at undergraduate and post graduate level shall continue for the 2015-16 academic session.
The varsity has been witness to unrest ever since a section of students, teachers and staff launched a protest last week demanding his removal. Dattagupta is also facing allegations of administration irregularities.
