The Haryana government today said it has decided to raise the retirement age of practicing doctors from present 58 to 65 years to check the "shortage" of doctors in the state.
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij stated this here after the decision for the same was taken in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
He said that in doing so, the state government has followed the "vision" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vij said it has also been decided that those doctors who were working on administrative posts would retire at the age of 58 years. However, he said, they would be able to continue to serve up to 65 years only if they opt to practice in any health institute of their choice.
The minister said it has also been decided to invite applications from the retired doctors who would like to rejoin the service as medical practitioner.
