Sukhwinder Kaur, hailing from Deepsingh Wala village of Barnala district was married to Swaranjit Singh of Lopon village about 8 years ago.
The relations between husband and wife were not good as the couple did not have any children, police said.
According to the victim's brother Bhupinder Singh, the incident took place when he and his mother had gone to meet her, police said.
While they all were asleep, Swaranjit Singh killed Sukhwinder Kaur by strangulating her at about midnight yesterday.
Even as Bhupinder Singh and his mother raised an alarm, the accused managed to escape.
