He may have become popular through his stint on daily soaps like "Uttaran" and "Piya Ka Ghar" but TV star Gaurav Chopra says he never identified with such stories.
The 36-year-old actor said in his more than a decade-long career on the small screen, he chose TV series and reality shows over the daily soaps.
"I have never related personally to the saas-bahu shows and I have not been a part of many of those. I am not saas-bahu kind of an actor.
"My domain is to do different characters. Saas-bahu shows in my career do exist but in them too I have always played the non saas-bahu type... I am sick of such shows," Gaurav told PTI.
The Delhi-born actor will be next seen in Star Plus' new offering "Gulmohar Grand", a TV series on the glamorous hospitality industry, airing from March 3.
On the show, Gaurav plays a straight-forward, idealistic and workaholic managing director of the hotel and the actor said he modelled his character on his father.
"I have taken inspiration from my father. My father was a multi-tasker as he was into an administration job. I have seen him dealing with so much of work but he always kept his smile intact when another person walked into his office. When I heard about my role, who works so hard and takes many responsibilities, I instantly remembered my father," he said.
"Gulmohar Grand", a 26 episode series that will be aired every Sunday, will depict the world of the hotel industry where appearances matter the most, but can be deceptive.
"This is a different kind of show. It has a new story every week with new flavour. On every Sunday, we will give you a new story which starts and ends on the same day," he said.
The show stars Aakanksha Singh of "Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha" fame as the female protagonist, who plays a timid and shy girl and has joined the hotel with a mysterious hidden agenda.
