After two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan and 2001 All England champion Pullela Gopichand, world number three Jan O Jorgensen has also slammed the Badminton World Federation's plans to consider a new scoring system, calling the move "idiotic and ridiculous".
The BWF will discuss an alternative scoring on the sidelines of the ongoing Thomas and Uber Cups today and Jorgensen said it is a bad idea.
"I think it is a bad idea. You have games in 30 minutes and you also have 7 minutes, that is the charm of the game, who doesn't want to see us go down the stretch in a one hour game. This thing is ridiculous," he told reporters after his match against Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei yesterday.
"I also think cutting down the Thomas Cup games is an idiotic idea. All the experienced players play the first games and the young and inexperienced players, they are taking the match to the end game, they take all the pressure and that is amazing.
"I think cutting all these is a bad idea. I don't understand why we need that. If what I have played here is not exciting then I don't know what is," added Jorgensen, who lost 22-20 14-21 17-21 to world no 1 Lee in their Thomas Cup quarterfinals last night.
The Scoring format was most recently changed in 2002 and 2006, when a rally point system (21x3) was put in place.
The world body has sought views on a new scoring system which it hopes would increase the "the intensity and excitement" , making the game shorter and more television-friendly.
The federation is mulling over three alternative scoring systems -- Two games of 21, Three games of 15 points and Five games of 9 points.
