The IED was detected at the main gate of Angomjambam Upananda this morning by the locals at Sagolband Nepra Major locality and was later brought to Lamphel area by the police where it was detonated by the bomb squad, a police officer said.
No outfit has claimed responsibility for the act.
Meanwhile, unidentified miscreants torched a vehicle at Khumbong Bazaar in Imphal West district today, the police said.
The incident comes after people of the Khumbong area imposed a counter-blockade along the Imphal-Jiribam Highway since yesterday against the indefinite economic blockade imposed on the lifeline of the landlocked state by the United Naga Council (UNC), which has been opposing the upgradation of SADAR Hills and Jiribam sub-division into full fledged revenue districts.
