"The Association has also written to the Prime Minister to come out with a central ordinance followed by a central act regarding assault on medical professionals while on duty," said Dr K K Aggarwal, Secretary General of IMA.
Dr Aggarwal said two recent incidents -- firstly in Allahabad where relatives of a patient assaulted Dr Rohit Gupta and secondly in Delhi where Singer Mika Singh slapped an eye specialist -- have shaken the medical fraternity.
Police had on April 12 registered a case against Mika for allegedly slapping a doctor at a live concert in south west Delhi. Mika had, however, defended himself claiming the doctor was drunk and causing disruption.
