In Connecticut, a woman using a snow blower was killed

Friday night in a hit-and-run accident, while a 49-year-old man died early yesterday, while shovelling snow. Also a 23-year-old man in New York died after he went off the edge of a roadway while plowing his driveway and a 74-year-old man died after being struck by a car whose driver lost control in the snow. In New York, a 58-year-old man died while clearing snow from his car and a 74-year-old woman died in a car crash in Maine. Three other people died in Ontario, Canada following heavy snowfall, include an 80-year-old woman who collapsed while shovelling her driveway and two men in car accidents. As the blizzard moved out, Massachusetts, Connecticutt and Rhode Island lifted bans on nonessential travel. "But it is still the better judgement, if you can, to stay in, and off the roads," Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick said. New York City which received 11 inches of snow fell in Central Park avoided the worst of the storm. "We were very lucky," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said. The National Weather Service said "travel conditions (on Saturday) will continue to be extremely hazardous, if not impossible." The storm came a little over three months after Hurricane Sandy devastated swaths of New York and New Jersey, killing 132 people and causing damage worth some USD 71.4 billion.
