India were 148 for two in reply to England's first innings total of 283 at tea on the second day of the third cricket Test, here.
Jonny Bairstow was the top scorer for the visitors with his 89-run knock while Mohammed Shami took three wickets for India.
In-form Cheteshwar Pujara (51) and skipper Virat Kohli (40) were at the crease for the hosts, who now trail by 135 runs.
