India-Nepal coordination meet to discuss border security

Issues related to security along the border and sharing of information on criminals will be discussed threadbare at the 3rd India-Nepal Coordination meeting to be held tomorrow, the Home Ministry said today.

A seven-member delegation from Nepal, headed by Inspector General of Nepal Armed Police Force Shailendra Khanal, is here to take part in the three-day meeting.

During the visit, several important matters like security scenario along the border, coordination meetings at field level, sharing of information about crimes and criminals, training of armed police personnel and mutual visits by officers of two countries will be discussed, a home ministry statement said.

Khanal today called on Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, who said India-Nepal relationship derives strength from shared history, trade, economic partnership, cultural ties and close and intense people-to-people contact.

He appreciated the "excellent cooperation" between security forces of two countries and stressed upon improved coordination through joint patrolling, common training of armed forces officers, regular border meetings and other means.

Khanal also appreciated the coordination between the two countries and emphasised the need for periodic coordination meetings, and common training courses for armed police officers of two countries, the statement said.

The delegation also visited the headquarters of the Central Industrial Security Force for an interaction with senior officials and they were given a presentation on various aspects of airport and metro rail security.
