Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra has jumped into the debate of extreme censorship of films in the country, saying the Indian audience does not require to be dictated about what they should watch and what not.
Censor board chief Pahlaj Nihalani has faced criticism after it was revealed that board had shortened the length of kissing scenes in James Bond movie "Spectre".
The "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" helmer said there is a habit of taking the audience for a ride and it is high time that the masses are given the right of choice.
When asked if the people of India are ready to all kinds of movies, Sudhir said, "We are totally ready, the censor board may think that we are not ready but we are ready. The audiences are ready. They are totally adult. They can handle a film. If they don't like it they will not see it so I think we have to give up this patriarchal view which decides what people like.
"They seem to assume knowledge of how society is and what works. These are all suppositions... We have to allow the atmosphere of films to be made and the audience is wise enough to choose," Sudhir said on the sidelines of Film Bazaar here today.
