Punjab government today announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the family of Army Captain Ashwani Kumar who lost his life in an avalanche in Siachen glacier of Ladakh sector on November 13.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced this help when he visited the bereaved family of Capt Ashwani here to condole his death.
Mourning the demise of the 26-year-old officer, the Chief Minister said the state government would ever be at family's beck and call and leave no stone unturned to help them in this hour of grief.
He said that the countrymen would ever remain indebted to unparalleled sacrifice made by Capt Ashwani, who attained martyrdom while safeguarding the security and sovereignty of the country.
Badal said all countrymen were with the family of this national hero, who had laid down his life at the altar of his motherland to protect its sovereignty and honour.
The Chief Minister assured the grieved family members that the state government was duty bound to help them in this hour of crisis and every step would be taken to extend a helping hand to the family.
Badal announced a financial help of Rs 10 lakh for the family and gave a cheque of Rs 5 lakh to the deceased soldier's father.
He also announced that state government would bear the entire expenditure of study of younger brother of the martyr.
The avalanche had struck a patrol party at Siachen glacier in Jammu and Kashmir on November 13. While, 15 soldiers were rescued, Regimental Medical Officer Capt Ashwani could not be saved.
Born on August 27, 1989, Captain Ashwani, a bachelor, completed his MBBS from Government Medical College, Patiala, and was commissioned into the Army on January 6, 2015.
