A 25-year-old Indian in Bahrain has appeared before a court after he was caught in a sting operation allegedly trying to sell drugs to an undercover police officer.
The unidentified man who worked as a driver, was charged with dealing drugs after a cocktail of illegal narcotics was uncovered at his home in Riffa, the Gulf Daily News reported today.
He landed in the police net following the sting operation earlier this year in which he allegedly attempted to sell Ecstasy drugs worth 130 Bahraini Dinar (USD 344.8) to an undercover police officer.
According to court documents, the police raided his flat and found five pieces of hashish as well as undisclosed quantities of Lysergic acid diethylamide and Ecstasy.
He is standing trial at the High Criminal Court, where he earlier pleaded not guilty to dealing the drugs, the report said.
"I was standing outside my flat in West Riffa and was surprised to see police approaching me. They found hashish on me, as well as 130 Bahraini Dinar (USD 344.8) in one of my pockets and around 400 Bahraini Dinar (USD 1060.9) in the other.
"They then came to my flat and I showed them a bag containing drugs, and so they took me to the police station. The drugs were for my personal use and I didn't sell them to anyone," the paper quoted him as saying to prosecutors.
The trial was adjourned until October 14 for defence witnesses to be summoned.
