Paramasivam Bharathi (46) pleaded guilty to causing the death of Malaysian motorist Lim Shung Ren through negligent driving.
Bharathi, who was driving a lorry, had taken a turn into the main street from a minor road but failed to keep a proper look out for traffic in Singapore's industrial estate on June 27 last year.
He encroached into the path of Lim (28) causing his car to crash. Lim died of his injuries nine days later in hospital.
District Judge Janet Wang took into account Bharathi's previous good driving commendation and that he had pleaded guilty at the outset.
But a second charge of causing grievous hurt to the pillion rider was taken into account. The court also imposed a fine of Singapore Dollar 8,500 on him.
