Indo-Myanmar media dialogue discusses issues of both countries

An Indo-Myanmar media dialogue with participation from journalists and academicians has discussed a wide range of issues concerning both the countries.
The two-day event jointly, organised by Heinrich Boell Foundation, Institute of Social Sciences, Burma Centre, Delhi and Asian Confluence here saw participation of a six-member delegation from Myanmar.
Myanmar's Member of Parliament from Kachin and Shan states and Pulitzer prize winning journalist Ester Htu San said there is a need for Indian media's presence in Myanmar.
She said there is huge presence of Chinese media in Myanmar and exchange of dialogue between China and Myanmar often takes place.
Ash Narain Roy, Director, Institute of Social Sciences, Delhi, emphasised on improvement of co-operation between the Indian journalists and Myanmar media and better representation on all the important agendas of India-Myanmar relations, particularly focusing on the bordering regions of Myanmar with India.

Alana Golmei, Director of the Burma Centre Delhi said media has a very important role to play in shaping India-Myanmar relationship.

Heinrich Boell Foundation's program coordinator Chok Tsering said the Foundation is very keen to collaborate on such initiatives and this has been a very successful beginning.
Former Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Rajiv Bhatia said the Northeast India should become a learning centre about India's immediate eastern neighbours, a release issued by the organiser said.
The dialogue was attended by academia and senior journalists from both India and Myanmar including Walter Fernandes, NESRC, Khin Zaw Win, Tampadipa Institute, Myanmar, Than Win Htut, DVB media, Myanmar, Bano Haralu, Nagaland, Chitra Ahanthem, Manipur, Henry Lalhlimum, Mizoram, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Indian Express, Deepak Dewan, North East Sun, Rajiv Bhattacharya, Guwahati, C K Nayak, member of PCI and Neha Dixit, Delhi.
