Forty-three years after the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the action at Nagi Sand Dune came alive in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar District today as veterans, serving soldiers and local populace gathered at the spot which felt the roars of the battle to commemorate the action of Indian Army.
Nefarious act of the Pakistani Army, which had captured the Indian territory in village Nagi ten days after the ceasefire in the Bangladesh Liberation War, was put to naught by the action of Indian Army personnel who reclaimed the post.
To commemorate the occasion, a number of events were held at Sriganganagar Military Station and Nagi Memorial for two days by the Amogh Division.
Yesterday, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at Shaurya Sthal and a sand art show was organised at Sriganganagar Cantonment which depicted the heroism of the martyrs of 4 Para Battalion and 9 Para Field Regiment.
Today, a Para motor display and wreath laying ceremony were held at the War Memorial at Nagi. It was followed by interactions with veterans and residents of Nagi village who had witnessed the war.
The event was graced by Major General T S Handa (Retd) of 4 PARA Battalion, Col Ranjeet Singh of 9 PARA Field Regiment and Lt Col Shailesh Bansal of 410 Field Company, representing the units of the Parachute Brigade which launched the operation on December 28, 1971, an official statement said.
On the occasion, war veterans were also felicitated by General Officer Commanding of Chetak Corps Lt Gen PM Hariz.
